Adams Wins Tucker Grant
Soprano Julie Adams ’13 won a career supporting grant at an invitation-only competition sponsored by the Richard Tucker Music Foundation. The $5,000 Sara Tucker Study Grants are awarded to recent graduates who show promise of pursuing significant careers in opera. The all-day, single-round competition held in New York on April 22 attracted an audience of agents, managers and artistic administrators. Adams took the pressure in stride, perhaps thanks to her recent experience winning such high-stakes contests as the 2015 George London Competition and the 2014 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. “Sure, I get nervous, but I have finally figured out how to deal with my nerves and perform to my best ability,” says Adams. “When I sing, I am at my happiest. Every time I perform, I try to share that passion and happiness with whomever is listening, and hope that my message comes across.” Adams studies with voice faculty member César Ulloa.
