A Cappella Showcase Comes to SFCM November 4

August 30, 2018 by Shase Hernandez

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the sixth annual Techapella a cappella showcase, taking place Sunday, November 4. Techapella, a vocal musical show which SFCM has hosted for the past two years, brings together a cappella groups composed of tech employees to showcase the best vocal ensembles in the industry. Returning to emcee the event this year is renowned a cappella personality and Sing-Off producer Deke Sharon.

The participating a cappella groups consist of employees from the tech industry’s most visible companies: Googapella (Google), The Vocal Network (Facebook), Songbirds (Twitter), The Square Registers (Square), The Pintunes (Pinterest), Airbnbeats (Airbnb), Scalesforce (Salesforce), and Internote (an inter-company a cappella group).

Techapella is one of the tech industry’s most eagerly awaited, inter-company events. The informal, non-competitive concert setting allows for participants to expand the reach of their artistic expression in a friendly, welcoming environment while exhibiting their collective talent in a vocal spectacle that has continually drawn sold-out crowds. In past years, vocal groups have performed a dynamic spread of tunes ranging from the latest hits to pop classics and other favorites.

“We are delighted to welcome Techapella back to the Conservatory for a third season,” says SFCM President David H. Stull. “Advancing music in the lives of everyone in our community is an essential aspect of our mission, and it is thrilling to witness the tremendous enthusiasm and joy that emerges from this event each year. We look forward to supporting Techapella in the years ahead.”

“Each year Techapella expands its reach--more groups, more singers, more fans!--and we're thrilled with this opportunity to promote the creative arts and industry collaboration in Silicon Valley,” says Lindsay Alford, Techapella’s coordinator. “This a cappella showcase gives us the opportunity to flex our artistic muscles in the most affable of environments and with the friendliest of peers, bringing the tech industry and the arts community closer together. We’re also pleased to continue our partnership with SFCM as teachers from the Conservatory coach Techapella groups ahead of the performances, giving an added educational benefit to this whole endeavor.”

In addition to the November 4 event at SFCM, a Techapella South Bay concert will take place at Fox Theatre in Redwood City, CA on Monday, October 15.
