What is your hometown?
Salt Lake City, UT
What are you passionate about outside of music?
Experiencing the natural world and hiking the mountains and canyons of the American West.
What is a favorite quote that you repeatedly tell students?
Play in the lower half! That is where the strength of the Baroque bow is.
What question do you wish students would ask sooner rather than later?
My hope is that students come with any and all questions about the Baroque violin and ask them early and often!
What was a turning point in your career?
My decision to leave New York City and move to the San Francisco Bay Area to participate in the early music community here.
What is your daily practice routine?
A scale a day, with arpeggios and doublestops.
If you could play only three composers for the rest of your life, who would they be?
Bach, Handel and Haydn
What is your unrealized project?
I am working on an album of contemporary music for solo Baroque violin.

Carla Moore, a leading exponent of the Baroque violin, enjoys exploring the wide-range of repertoire for period instruments. Known for her strong leadership and compelling musicality, she has served as concertmaster of Portland Baroque Orchestra since 2001 and has performed with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra since 1991, often serving as concertmaster and soloist. As a West Coast musician, Carla has enjoyed collaborations with Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Santa Fe Pro Musica, Pacific MusicWorks, Musica Angelica and Seattle Baroque Orchestra. She has performed at international music festivals in Britain, Europe and the USA, including Tanglewood, Ravinia and Carmel Bach Festivals. Carla has an extensive discography of orchestral and chamber music, including videos on YouTube with Voices of Music viewed by millions world-wide. Carla delights in educating students in Baroque style and teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has led masterclasses at the University of Puget Sound, Northwestern University, University of Utah and Utah State University. In her free time, Carla is an avid hiker and enjoys immersing herself in the mountains of California and the deserts of Utah.
