Born in Tokyo, violinist Kineko Okumura was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she studied with Oscar Shumsky. Ms. Okumura received the Ysaye Award in Japan, won second place in the Paganini International Competition, and was selected to perform at the Akademia Chigiana in Italy. Ms Okumura has extensive chamber music experience, including many performances with the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento, the Ariel String Quartet, and Festival San Miguel Allende. These include collaborations with John Nakamatsu, Rachael Barton Pine, Gary Karr, David Tannenbaum, Yoshi Nagai, and Philip Myers. Kineko has held the position of Associate Concertmaster for the Sacramento Symphony, the Sacramento Chamber Orchestra, and the Monterey Symphony. She has also served as Concertmaster for the Solano Symphony and the Bear Valley Festival Orchestra, as well as performed with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Pro Art Symphony. Kineko Okumura teaches privately and is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory. Her students have won Concerto Competitions, performing with orchestras in Northern California.
